Top Five Movies For T-Shirts
Movie t-shirts are everywhere these days. No matter where you go, you are sure to see a picture of Will Ferrell or Chewbacca on sombody’s chest. If you search the internet you will certainly find thousands of t-shirts inspired by hundreds of different Hollywood stars and pictures. Films as different as “The Notebook” and “Half Baked” each have inspired clothing to be designed in their honor. Every cinematic genre from horror to comedy and even documentaries all serve as idea sources for clothing designers. Not every feature film that hits the big screen is worthy of being immortalized on the clothing of hipsters and young people however.
In order to attract attention from clothing designers and fans alike, a movie must meet a series of criteria. To be truly worthy of inspiring clothing designs a cinematic feature must be a perfect combination of funny, unique, quotable, memorable, and popular. These five factors determine the success or failure of a movie t-shirt, and the five films listed below have proven to be the best at blending those factors.
- The Big Lebowski – The Big Lebowski is endlessly quotable and has created a cult following the likes of which is unequaled by any motion picture released in the last twenty years. Classic quotes like “The Dude Abides” and “You are entering a world of pain” along with unforgettable characters like Jesus and Walter have inspired countless articles of clothing. Any true fan of The Big Lebowski is sure to own several Big Lebowski tops.
- Star Wars – The original trilogy of Star Wars is a cultural phenomenon that has spawned more merchandise than any other intellectual property to date. Star Wars t-shirt designs range from simple words or scenes from the films to very funny jokes that include characters or twists of quotes from the sci-fi juggernaut. Anyone who considers himself a true Star Wars fan is sure to have a closet full of proof of his devotion to the George Lucas classic.
- Rocky – Rocky is one of the most inspirational films ever to come out of Hollywood. It is a classic underdog story that anyone can relate to, and not surprisingly clothing designers everywhere have tried to capture the feeling of the picture in their designs.
- The Hangover – Usually it takes a motion picture several years to catch on with the public and inspire a collection of popular casual wear, but The Hangover is an exception to that rule. The Hangover hit the American public like a culture tornado, and almost instantly after the release of the feature length comedy you could see people with Hangover quotes and characters on their chests. The Hangover was hilarious, and it is sure to be followed up with a sequel very soon, and soon after that we can probably expect more Hangover characters immortalized on people’s torsos.
- Back to the Future – Great Scot! If you were forced to pick one piece of cinema that defines the 1980’s, it could easily be Back to the Future (even though most of the story was set in the 1950’s). Doc Brown and Marty traded countless memorable quotes, and things like the time machine and the clock tower have become Hollywood icons. Consequently, clever clothing creators have used this timeless story to great effect, designing an array of popular shirts that any Back to the Future fan can appreciate.
